The Top End

Below is a map of the Australian state, The Northern Territory, also known as the Top End. We are currently working and living on a friend's station (ranch) about half way between Katherin and Mataranka. The station is 700 square kilometers in size, HUGE! Katherine is about 10,000 people and we are about 3 hours from Darwin.
Butch has been busy helping Jane with all kinds of jobs around the station. He has been doing everything from fixing light sockets to tractors, checking water for the cattle, and putting tin on a building. He also enjoys riding horses with the station's permanent employee. Each morning they set off for a quiet relaxing ride.
The kids and I keep ourselves busy with odd jobs around the house. We also enjoy heading out into the bush with Butch to check something about every-other day. The peace and quiet is amazing. The kids also enjoy the wide open spaces and absence of tight rules and regulations.

Sunday afternoon we packed up the kids, and Flea the dog and took a drive out to the swamp to see how much water was about. This is a picture of Butch and the kids near the swamp. We have had quite a bit of rain lately and it is all starting to add up. It is not realy deep, but covers a lot of area. The old ghost gum trees are amazing here and the wildlife is abbundant.
